Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire encompasses 345, 000 hectares of bio diverse rich tropical rain forest teeming with wildlife, a multitude of pristine waterways, and crystal clear beaches caped with white sand and palm trees. It is home to a diverse number of traditional Aboriginal Family groups. The Lockhart River Township is surrounded by the Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park, and two kilometers away from the shores of Quintell Beach, one of its most memorable experiences is the running of the Blue Salmon each year between May and August.
